This is the reality in Japan. There's not enough healthcare workers for the elderly. Japan won't allow foreign workers in unless they can pass insanely difficult language proficiency tests, and inexpensive labor from Thailand / Vietnam / Etc. isn't able to
The difference is that Japan is trying to solve the problem through magnifying the work down by their native workers through skills and technology. It is probably not going to be enough soon enough, although their work will be valuable when everyone else wants to use it, but it is a better solution in the long run than bringing in immigrants and hoping they assimilate just enough to not form a resentful exploited underclass that’s largely disloyal and causes trouble but not enough that they get old, fat and don’t have kids just like the natives.

Do you know, the handful of times I’ve had major medical stuff, I’ve always received absolutely stellar care. I wonder now if nurses/drs etc arm wrestle to get the thin patients instead of fats. It’s got to make their jobs so much easier and more tolerable, right?

If you’re not obese, not only will you make their statistics look better and be less horrible to work on, there’s probably an element of job satisfaction from doing something worth doing that’s missing with fats.

This is so sad actually. They don't have an easy job to begin with and now it's only becoming harder...
