I want you to be happy, healthy, hopeful, and potentially productive. I want that for your kid, too. It means you're less likely to steal my stuff! I like my stuff, that's why I bought it.
That's a figurative you, not you in particular. Though I do want you happy, healthy, educated, productive to your capacity, and hopeful. I want you to enjoy the same basic liberties I enjoy.
I don't mind paying taxes. I could easily pay more than I do. Technically, I don't even write everything off that I could. I like paying my share. It's the cost of living in society and I'm pretty partial to society. I also don't want people stealing my stuff and trying to eat my face because they are hungry.
If I caught you breaking into my house, and I deemed you not a threat, I'd feed you. Then, over a delicious dessert, we're going to discuss how you can earn some money. I can get most anyone a job. It won't be the greatest job, but it'll be enough to get by. It is a long story, but I am a silent partner in some local franchises. I'm also in the club, so to speak. It'd probably be making coffee that America runs on, or being a sandwich artist. But, it's a job and they pay better than minimum wage. Full time too, if it's wanted.
Right now, we mostly employ college kids. We'd love local folks. We start at $12.50 an hour - in Maine. That's really, really good for Maine. It's damned good for the Farmington area.

Fuck yeah, people live off $7.50 an hour. I insist we pay well. That's part of my deal. I'll invest, but it has to serve the community.
I have morals. Not many, but the ones I have are set in stone. Morals are absolute. Ethics are situational. That's the difference, for me. I'm very, very big on giving back to the community. I'd go into details, but it would quickly start to sound like bragging.
