I'm sure there's some rule or Murphy's law type thing about it. When everyone is talking about the same thing, the extremes are what stand out. People have a natural desire to be noticed, responded to, etc. Over time things get shifted in the direction of extremes. This drives away the people who want to discuss the show, and all you're left with are the people who want to masturbate to actors and endlessly regurgitate/relive the things they liked about the show.
