Because we want something better?

I think of this site as a few things: OC, reposted content, and conversation/ideas

OC is hard to come by, but obviously if people have it, there's nothing stopping them. Reposted content - I don't see why someone can't repost good Reddit content, it's the content that matters, Reddit didn't create it... I really enjoy some of the hilarious stuff that pops up around the internet and ends up on my screen.

For conversations, well fuck Reddit, I've had enough from the whiny losers that hang out there. I think that the key turning point was when someone tried to explain that it's impossible that an IT person had to show Ellen Pao how to use her new phone "because she has an Ivy League engineering degree"... electrical engineering... from circa 1990. Fucking brain damage.

PS - I've been enjoying getting to know people in the community here, it's the start of something great

Why don't we just create something new?

because you're delusional if you think we're going to fill the void that reddit left with voat-only OC. you guys will cave eventually and start reposting things from reddit, and you know what? That'll be fine. We're not rejecting what reddit was, that's why voat is so like reddit. We're just not supporting reddit's business model by giving them pageviews.

I just think, chances are those things will be posted here anyway. Anything noteworthy will be brought to the top on either site. There is no need to go to Reddit for that to happen.

I mean... I think it makes sense if we want to enjoy some reddit content without giving them page hits (pao-points). I wouldn't mind a couple top-content rehosting/reposting bots so we can enjoy them on voat. I know there's kind of a stigma against reposts, but let's not pretend we suddenly don't like anything that's posted on reddit just because we don't want to support their business model. We can't just dismiss good OC because taking it somewhere else soon after it appears would be reposting, seems kinda like shooting ourselves in the feet otherwise...

Totally agree... part of it is just that I like seeing what's good from the internet, I don't really care where it comes from.

Also, hilarious name!

To be really honest, Reddit has done the same thing. Posts from 4chan, images from 9 gag - heck I wouldn't be surprised if they're getting some of their posts from here.

9gag does this, as do many other media sites. I guess I want to hold voat as something different, something pure.

I don't know. I just don't want to see voat become a broken dream because it just stole content, but I also don't want voat to stagnate, and become the same broken dream.

Get the fuck out of here then if you don't like it.

Are you responding to me? I love Voat, that's why I'm here... I'm saying who cares where the content came from, why not just take some of the top content from Reddit and repost it here... Reddit didn't create it, so why not?

So I went back and looked at Digg... wow, that site belongs in WTF. They're advertising $78 polo shirts and assorted random articles plus some movie ads/articles
