While the sheriff was caught saying some stupid things, I don't necessarily disagree with the order to take him by any means necessary. This fuckface was driving a truck and trailer recklessly at high rates of speed for 50 miles trying to elude police. He clearly wasn't stopping and was risking the lives of innocent people for over 50 miles. The report that he was unarmed is bullshit because the vehicle is a weapon in this case. When people run from police like that, they are typically running for a reason and aren't going to stop willingly.

Had he pulled over, he'd be alive. His fault.

So who gets to decide what where the line is? You will find out in life that if it's good enough for that guy, one day it will be good enough for you. His words are all I need to hear to decide this sheriff is one crazy motherfucker and a menace to society.

Actually, they were given the legal authority to make that call. It'll never happen to me because if the cops pull me over, I pull over. I don't lead them on a 50 mile high speed chase while dragging a trailer full of projectiles in and out of traffic.

Goddamn. So many bootlickers in this thread justifying use of overwhelming force. Including the ones downvoting you.

Exactly. It's not necessarily what he did, but what he said. We don't need sociopathic cops or sheriff's out there who "thrive" on killing people, no matter what they've done. There is a certain procedure for a reason, and if the situation calls for taking somebody out, then that's what needs to happen. But what he said is damning, and I hope he goes to prison and is raped a hundred times before he's shanked with a screwdriver covered in HIV contaminated blood.

The police get to decide.

Either deadly force was justified or it wasnt, BFD what they said afterwards. Let the system decide. I do believe police are more likely to shoot because their training says citizens are the enemy and that is wrong.

"Let's just forget how he could kill our citizens with his reckless driving and running from us, and be real gentle with him. He didn't get enough love growing up... I want to see hugs when this thing wraps up with him running over someone's wife or kid..." What the sheriff should have said.

I don’t understand why this is controversial.

Shooting him AFTER his car was stopped, and without any signs of him being armed seems to be a needless death.

a needless death.

I've yet to hear of a high speed chase involving a brain surgeon, or a rocket scientist, or even a rocket surgeon. There is always an element of stupid involved. So, I'd say there was a great need for this death. Get stupid off the street. This sheriff is a hero.

Deadly force is deadly force. Whether it is ramming with a car or firing a weapon it needs the same justification.
