Because FLAC takes up a lot of space and it doesn't sound any different.
There are no bandwidth or storage limitations anymore.
Not even close to true for everyone. But aside from that, most people can't tell the difference between a good mp3 and FLAC anyway. I can tell the difference between a bad and a good rip but once you get past a certain point I really couldn't tell you any differences in anything.

At home, I only play CD's but I rip everything to decent quality for the car and for playing at work. I've ripped all of my stuff as well as most of my friend's stuff so I literally have instant access to thousands of CDs at work.
If I ever decided to get rid of my CD's for space, it'd be flac only. Nothing else comes close to compression vs. quality.
