Number one is Les Paul. That's not a mystery. It's the rest of the list that may surprise folks.

If I go back to performing, I'm going to miss playing for myself. My practice will be devoted to what I'll be performing. Then, I'll have one or two shows every week. I will also drive the band hard and insist on rehearsing an ungodly amount. I will expect five to ten hours of rehearsing as a group. This isn't going to be a project people do as a second job, it's to be their primary job.

Well, assuming that I do this. My answer is still 'no,' but I'm leaving my options open. I just had two phone calls that confirm two of them will be here tomorrow, at different times, to audition for me. One of them plays a trumpet but doesn't own one. It just so happens that I do own one. I'll find out how honest they are and how well they truly know their skill levels. The other is a drummer. I'll set up a snare and get out a couple of bongos. ;-) They are tucked away in the garage, so I'll need to dig them out. We will see how well he really drums.

Your no sounds about as convincing as my girlfriend when she tells me no to sex. I don't believe it for a second. Are those auditions you mentioned with the guys you played with last weekend? Seems to me that taken the time to set up and go through with the auditions means that you're fairly committed to taking this project on. As far as missing playing for yourself, if it's your band, you can always throw in one or two songs into the set just for yourself

Yes, they are with the same people I just played with. These are semi-formal auditions. By the time they are done, I'll have had a few contracts made up.

If things look good, then I'll run with it. If not, then fuck it, I'll stay happily retired.
