This seems to be a slightly edited version of an article in the May 12, 2014 Yale News. The researchers at Yale have continued on their track, and on December 7, 2017 Yale News has another article Looking deep inside a diamond planet in which they speculate that the silicon carbide in the carbon rich planets may decompose under high interior pressure and temperature into separate layers of silicon and diamond. I guess you'd call it a "layer-cake world".

DeBeers owns a equatorial space launch in Africa and gets their diamonds from space. Unlimited quantity.
