In a letter sent to congressional committees, Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz said his office “succeeded in using forensic tools to recover text messages from FBI devices, including text messages between Mr. Strzok and Ms. Page that were sent or received between December 14, 2016 and May 17, 2017.”

Actually, he called the Russians and asked for copies.

And what's going to be done with these recovered texts?

My guess is a very hard attempt at saying it would harm Natl Security to release them. If it does get released, highly redacted and will disappear from hot topics.

They had to use forensic tools for this. That means that they didn't have proper backups in place.

Meaning they are either incompetent, or corrupt. Either way, people need to be fired and/or jailed.

what if they took the time to go through the texts and remove/change anything they didn't want showing up? it's all digital so anything can be altered at the right level

Will need more substantiation and sources, but is this a start?
