Label all your cables. Also, if you have extra, bring extra. Might make new friends by providing forgotten cables. But seriously label those suckers.

download all of your games beforehand, shower, wear light cloths (It could get hot), and carry an extra surge protector (you never know).

Don't trust anyone if its a public event. Think about getting a couple kensington locks one for your desktop and one for your monitor (at a pinch a couple decent bike locks can do the job). A few years ago my monitor was stolen on the final day so I'm always a bit paranoid about something similar happening but if your going with friends or seated with people you trust you'll probably be fine (caught the prick that did it and got it back but still).

Get a packet of baby wipes if its day long thing to keep yourself from being the stinky one and helps keep your hands clean, unless the area has great air conditioning expect the room to be boiling hot. Avoid sugary drinks and stick with water if you can, don't drink like fish you don't want to be running to the toilet every 5 minutes but do keep yourself well hydrated.

Do not bring an 50 dollar super special keyboard or mouse that you'd miss if something happened to it or cry if something spilled on it, bring whats comfortable and not utterly rubbish.

Have fun, make sure your games are all installed and working for the day, don't be that guy who spends 4 hours trying to download a game at the event while 20 something people are trying to use the same connection. If your doing a lot of traveling to get to the event you should make sure your components are all nicely secured, a cheap pack of cable ties can help out in a pinch but if you get to the event and get setup and greeted with a blank screen then its probably static, unplugging parts like RAM and GPU and plugging them back in should clear this up sometimes even the CPU needs to be reseated.

If it's a small lan amongst friends, expect good times unless you're not prepared networking wise then expect about an hour of troubleshooting and THEN good times.

can confirm. Had a lan party and spent a hour wondering why everyone was at 400ping. QoS was on, non-assigned MAC's get 15% of max network speed.
