What do you think of this? I am initially opposed. I don't drive into, out of, or through Manhattan during rush hour unless I must. I can't imagine others do it for their own personal enjoyment, either. So if it's another $8, I don't see it as really easing much traffic but simply creating another tariff to fund subway upgrades.

Tolls reduce traffic, every single time. There are zero instances where toll increases or initiations didn't reduce traffic. Even minor increases reduce traffic.

The only exception was when the route was initially a toll road from the very beginning. In that case, we don't have data from the time before the toll was added (of course).

I agree that we should price out everyone but the wealthiest on the roads that our property and gas taxes pay for. If they want to continually price people off the roads with tolls, then I expect that I will no longer be forced to pay taxes that are spent on roads. This is becoming a problem where I live because they are building toll roads as major connectors without any free option to take. So you either pay the toll (which is paid to foreign owned interest) or you take a much longer and slower route. But they take land from people to build this road that only the wealthy can use. It's absurd.

Fascinating. I hope they are exceptionally careful in how they implement the area.
