Cage the elephant, anything from modest mouse, twenty one pilots, Gorillaz, Young the Giant, Manchester orchestra, vampire weekend, grouplove. Those are just a few of my favorites

Great list! I would add some earlier stuff from the Killers (the whole Hot Fuss album really), Lou Reed, LCD Soundsystem, The Shins, Ratatat

None of these groups hit the genres that people either like or just completely hate (dubstep, rap, or country) and they all have pretty diverse songs

All favorites of mine. Also I'd add Faded Paper Figures.

You should download spotify or go on youtube and start listening to different genres. Spotify and pandora offer radios, so you can just let that play in the background. If you find something catchy, listen to more.

Some things that might help people here offer you suggestions:

-What do you generally do in your spare time? -Are you an active, or sedentary person? -Are you really social, or do you like to keep to yourself?

Generally, I just sit around in my spare time, but I am somewhat active as I do like to go for a walk when I smoke. If I'm not walking though, I spend most of my time just sitting around. When it comes to social things, I generally prefer to spend time alone, however I don't mind the odd social situation.

You should try some post rock. God is an astronaut, explosions in the sky, and mogwai are good accessible bands in the genre.

Great listening while sitting or going for relaxing walks.

This is just a personal preference, but I like trance, house, and deep house music. It's good when smoking. I like when it's more instrumental so I can concentrate on thinking or surf the web without distractions.

You can listen to classic metal: Megadeth, Metallica, AC/DC, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden (let's not forget Slayer, but you can find them a bit disturbing). Other bands that I like: Black Label Society, Paradise Lost, Rammstein, Motor Head, Machine Head. You can try some folk metal: Eluveitie or some thematic metal like viking metal (Amon Amarth) and war metal (Sabaton, Manowar). Hard Rock/alternative rock (Drowning Pool, Foo Fighters) is pretty cool sometimes.

These are the genres that I listen often with some examples of bands.

You can try some kind of movie trailer music/soundtrack. Two steps from hell and Audiomachine are pretty popular.

I don't mean to burst your buble at all, I'm all for loving bands. But every time I see someone post about Mumford & Sons I can't help but laugh thinking about this guy.

Right now I'm a big fan of Father John Misty , Jeff Rosenstock, The Punch Brothers, and probably my favorite rock song ever Love Reign O'er Me by The Who. Those may not be to your taste, but its a pretty broad variety, I think.

Hi there, it's a shame you don't listen to music much, it's great. Ever tried playing an instrument? If so what genre did you like to play? Maybe that could influence what you want to hear yourself. As for me, I listen to mainly alternative rock and the Seattle sound, which includes Soundgarden, Silver Chair, Nirvana and Babes in Toyland and that kind of thing. It's all pretty decent, there are lots of older bands that are forgotten, Marilyn Manson for example have just released an album which is amazing, and even Mark Knophler has done some pretty amazing solo work if you're into stuff similar to Hendrix?

I do actually play an instrument. I play the bass intermittently. It leans against the wall, and a couple of times a day, I'll have an overpowering urge to pick it up and play Killing in the Name. Aside from that, I can play a tiny bit of Californication and a few Nirvana songs. I do like Hendrix, a fair bit actually. So anything that is similar to that, I'll be more than happy to check out.

Haha each to their own I say. But yeah, Mark knophler has a kinda slow, bluesy sound, reminds me of Hendrix because of that and because he puts in no effort and makes this beautiful sound like it just comes so naturally to him. And let's be honest, who doesn't love abit of Rage, I was listening to them the other day! You should keep up with the instrument, it can be your party trick.

Music from movie's or series you like, because you already have a emotional connection with it. I love listening to the GOT soundtracks, such haunting and powerful music.
