White woman here. Three kids all seven ish years apart. I would have had more but I like a few things. I like being able to go places. I like knowing I can feed the kids and also buy them clothes. Having kids is expensive. I love the shit out of my husband and would have had a more if it was something that we could afford to have without being poor. As it is 6/7 years apart is kind of perfect.

Don't get me wrong. I want women to have fulfilling and stimulating careers. I just want society to me more accommodating to them when they have children. Lower moms working hours for a start. Also give people with more children tax breaks and make their workplace kid friendly. Shifting the workplace from the office to their home can also help. Another important aspect is the cost of education. If we make primary and higher education much more affordable it enable many to have more children.

There is no single movement or ideology to blame. The problem is that people who have kids have fewer of them. With mothers working there is a greater marginal cost for each additional child whereas mothers who do not work can take care of more than one child at a time well enough that they might as well have more.
I dont buy into class warfare bullshit, but I do believe that families who are well-off financially have a civic duty to have more children and to raise them well.

The academic conclusion is that reduced birth rates are due to increased affluence and education. Poor people and dumb people have many more children. There's also strong correlation with access to birth control.
