Oh, they are definitely part of the problem. That doesn't mean they don't have uses.

I've been throttled, not banned, for defending free speech. I admit, I was pretty energetic about it. However, I was standing up for Voat and they were assuming I'm a racist nazi. I'm not even white, I'm Native. I just love free speech. The shit I take for standing up for you guys! LOL

So, I'm muzzled there. I could email and they'd set me back to normal but I'm not done so they should probably leave me throttled for a little while longer. Also, I'm a math heretic and that pisses them off. It pisses them off more when they realize I have peers on their site and I'm correct. So, they should leave me throttled for a few more months.

HAHA, I know nerd battles in Math are rough, but I didn't realize that you all had the blind religious fervor that was plaguing every other field. Out of curiosity, have you heard about Norman Wildberger's idea of removing the necessity of degrees from trig. http://web.maths.unsw.edu.au/~norman/papers.htm ~Page 5 is where he starts opening up with the idea. The basic concept is to use quadents and ratios of them instead of angles.

We have epic nerd battles. I've seen it come to blows.

Want to start one?

Tell them that they are wrong and 0.999... =/= 1.

They will go on about limits, sets, number theory, and even show you proofs. Ignore that.

Tell them to write 0.999... (the ... means repeating to infinity) on the board and you'll give them a dollar when it hits a whole number.

Best day ever, if you can get them to fight among themselves.

And yeah, I'm familiar with Dr. Wildberger's work. It's not strictly novel but I could see it irking people. One of my other favorites is that Pi is wrong! You should stop by the mathemagician sub sometime. You might get a kick out of some of the stuff that gets posted.

I'm already familiar with it, though not studied in it. I've seen a few comments but no heated debates YET. I have hopes!
