Ok, fine. You are much colder than here. I will admit that I'm still 'new' to even this despite being here for a few years. My SO let me step out on the ice for the first fucking time and it was a small lake that pops and cracks. I was like WTF, STOP DROP AND ROLL. STOP DROP AND ROLL. and realized that was for fire. Fucking hell. I didn't take to icefishing that year at all, especially since I didn't catch shit all.
I got into it actually just this past year when I caught shit (which was perch). I used to eat perch, brim, sunfish previously since I'm originially from the south. Plus, they give great fishin confdence! Here, you aren't supposed to let them go, either and are prob a trash fish, but I like the taste anyways. Also, we've thought about the search and rescue and really should join up. We do a lot of dumb shit to get ourselves stuck and unstuck, which makes good practice. I didn't realize how much 'fuckin off' helped until we had a friend fall through the ice and we just jumped into action and knew each others' parts.
I'm glad that it doesn't get too cold here. Everyone from where I grew up is all like "Oh! It's so pretty!" and I'm like.. fuck u, come visit for fucking once.
Also, I'm inebriated but like the trout that looks like salmon meat.

I get to be picky. I sight fish. I fly fish and wear polarized sunglasses so that I can see individual fish more easily. I then present a fly to that fish, based on the current diet. I try to present the fly as naturally as possible and catch that specific fish. I usually eat native brook trout and stock my freezers with plenty. I also do salmon fishing and don't generally eat anything other than those two species. I will do brown or lake trout, splake or togue.
I actually couldn't really fish when I retired. I could cast a bit, but only with spin cast gear. I took lessons from registered guides, guide lessons, etc...

I wish I could fly fish. Looks cool, but I keep catching trees. Hell, I used to catch fish from cane pole as a kid, but never caught shit from lures til I got up here. I didn't know shit either; hell, I still don't. Life is a big ole figuring out game, and we all learn different shit. I will say that I''m very envious of your acreage and if you have the .. desire, that you learn to trap it. I'm in my first year of trapping and have such big ideas. Lol. I hope at least, I end up with a middle finger for my gloves. :D
