Guy was a cop for 25 years believe it or not. Lucky the bullet didn't hit his wife.

I wonder what his nickname at the station is now lol

I wonder what's the purpose of releasing his personal information and broadcasting it on national news. What's that supposed to achieve, exactly?

The only thing I see is that even grown adults should not be entrusted with weapons.

Good question. Correct suggestion.

The guy was just an idiot. There was ZERO reason for him to have to have that weapon out. As someone who carries a weapon 100% of the time when out of the house I can tell you that there are only two times during the day when the firearm is in my hand. Those two times are when I put it in my holster in the morning and when I take it out of my holster at night. Unless you're going to use it, it should stay have stayed in the holster.

Just because he was a cop for 25 years doesn't mean he was somehow more qualified to carry the thing than other adults. On the contrary, I've seen many cops who shouldn't really have a gun at all. The only reason they do have one is because it's part of their job and they have to have one. Far too many cops pull their firearms out and hold them sideways... faaar too many. Just because they're a cop doesn't mean that they're qualified.

This man was not have been carrying a firearm and he certainly shouldn't have had it out. He broke all three rules of firearm safety and got hurt because of it. He got what he deserved.

I don't know, I understand the desire for self-defense but at the same time I think in a span of 25 years it's much more likely someone will be confident enough to believe they could never make some rookie mistake, you know?

All that said I still wonder what reason there is for publishing his name. Improperly discharging a firearm in public may be a criminal offence, but at the same time he's so likely to become a laughing stock or otherwise be abused by people who recognize him for essentially being a dope and taking a bullet to the gut for it.
