My little oddball subverse, /v/latenightgoogle, has actual people here, even if it's just a handful. Its equivalent on Reddit is dead.

Excluding /v/fatpeoplehate obviously, I rather doubt it. Most everyone right now is spending their time waiting for the website to come back up, or trying to get used to the new system and get their full voting privileges.

Maybe once we all get settled though the sort of contribution requirement for basic site functionality will get some smaller subreddits moving for new users.

I really hope so. I feel that small barriers to entry can only make a community that is more interested in its actual quality and outcome.

Well it if nothing else, it leads to a community were you had to have contributed significantly positively in order to negatively impact anything; something that I can't imagine is a bad thing.

I really haven't seen any that surpass the reddit counter-parts, but I think it's just that this site hasn't had the population or time to really build them up. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Right now it's feeling like Regular Reddit used to (pre drama days) and not current Summer Reddit. I'm hoping it stays this way. Even after the new rubs off.

A little sad that /v/goats isn't more active

/v/news has more online users than /r/news at the moment.

Well /v/fatpeoplehate is definitely infinitely more active then the Reddit counterpart.
