Then "freedom of the press" is limited to writing with a quill pen and a hand operated printing press. If you are going to argue firearms be limited to 1770's technology,

You can use bowling balls as ammunition.

Google up some prices for bowling balls and say that with a straight face.

Bowling balls would be terrible. They would probably just shatter. Vs a hunk of metal the size of a softball, bowling balls seem weak.

Stop linking to the chans, the images don't get saved permanently. Rehost to another site (exception of imgur) next time.

God that annoys me. Why does everyone link to that here?

Despite what everybody claims, when called out to perform, most guys cant even shoot a .300 win mag worth a shit, let alone a .50 bmg. To a lot of guys, shooting magnums is like a penis size thing. Fact is, its not something everybody can do.

Ever shot the Smith and Wesson .460 in the 8.5" barrel with a scope? Or how about an online muzzle loader shooting a 350 grain slug with about 120 grains of powder and do it accurately? Take your size bullshit somewhere else.

You still can own cannons and warships. Tanks too. They're all priced out of most people's range though.

They intended the population to be armed with military guns to defend against a tyrannical government.

What that means is, we should be able to own machine guns and mortars and tanks and....

Your move.

I've always thought America wasn't meant to be this civilized and giant economically of a country, more of a frontier. Like Alaska.

In that day was there much distinction between rifles owned by civilians and the army?

Civilians owned the same types of weapons as the military including cannons, small ships of war, etc. Of course, a lot of people also didn't own the same type of weapons.

The primary infantry weapon was the musket. It was smooth bore and not long barreled. It could be reloaded quickly but was not highly accurate. Military doctrine of the day involved formations of men firing rapidly. So they could overpower other forces by rate of fire at close range. Sending many bullets inaccurately towards the enemy.

For many civilians the primary weapon was a rifle. It had a longer barrel, took longer to reload, but was highly accurate up to much longer distances. It was intended primarily for hunting.
