The aclu fights for the civil rights of everyone regardless of guilt, innocence, conservative or liberal. The one part I do not agree with is assigning such rights to people here illegally.

Reminder that the ACLU is a foreign entity lobbying for the destruction of American law.

i used to take heat when i served because we all had to donate to organizations or volunteer for weekend duty. i gave money to the NRA and the ACLU. all of the people who outranked you on the chain up could see who you were giving money too. all of the partisans would question my choice. i told them i liked the constitution and the rights guaranteed us by the it and the bill of rights and that i supported both the first and the second.

no weekend duty, no getting pulled into political bullshit.

I am kind of surprised at the hate for the ACLU. I am wondering if there's some sort of misinformation campaign going on?

Another favorite is the EFF, but not the FSF. The FSF can fuck right off.

ACLU is one of our enemies organizations. It's good that they've published their names, and the names of their associates.

The problem with the ACLU lies in how they define civil liberties. They feel no qualms letting Second Amendment rights or religious exercise rights (especially if they are those of Christians) get trammeled even though they are protected in the Constitution, but are very happy to expand rights to include all sorts of things like letting transexuals pick their bathrooms. About the only thing they have consistently protected to everyone's benefit without regard to left or right wing politics has been freedom of speech. Unfortunately, recent signals leave their commitment to that going forward in doubt. They look like they might be succumbing to the distinction between freedom for all speech and no freedom for hateful or harmful speech as defined by social justice warriors.

I used to give the the Boy Scouts during the CFC but this was many years ago when they were still normal and everyone thought they were just great.

Could it be that when you freely travel to a war zone in a foreign country and fight on the side of an enemy against the citizens of your nation that you might forfeit some of your rights? Just wondering.

Not unless you officially denounce your citizenship, probably. We won't really know until judges decide. My reading suggests not.

I guess I'd need to know a bit more. If he is being held as an enemy combatant, I do not necessarily see what the issue is. That said, I haven't studied the relevant area of the law closely to have an particularly informed view of the differences of holding an illegal combatant POW based on their citizenship.

(((They))) are freaking out. This is not why they wrote and passed NDAA. It was supposed to be against good, not evil.
