That's wrong. Critical thinking and logic have never been truly popular, and even those movements who support them end up corrupted by groupthink and irrationality. Just look at science. In America, the average citizen is not extremely intelligent, and is overall kept too busy just "keeping the lights on" with life; burdened by stress, taxation, regulation, and a general uncertainty for the future.
Long ago, those that govern society realized that emotions were the most effective method of manipulating these low-intelligence masses, combined with keeping them otherwise occupied. Logic is under attack because it is the only weakness this emotional and distraction based slavery has.
