Things are just fine. You are overthinking everything. Life is good. Life is fair. You trust the government and your politicians. When I snap my fingers you will wake up feeling refreshed and invigorated.

Because it's painful, it hurts like fuck to think critically. I still find out I'm horribly wrong every so often, and it stings like a bitch. The only reason I keep on insisting on remaining critical is because the only thing I hate more than being wrong, is continuing to be wrong.

Emotions are cheap and easy to manipulate. You don't even need results, just dangling the possibility that a difference will be made and getting those feel good hormones flowing is enough.
Live Aid shows starving kids in Africa in adverts to get you to donate. Emotional thinking gets you a pat on the head from other emotional thinkers and a warm fuzzy feeling inside. This keeps the status quo of "evoke this emotion > get this result (normally money)" going.
If you point out Live Aid has been given money in the millions, probably billions, over 30+ years, yet those same kids who were starving in the 1980s grew up to have breed more starving kids in the 2000s so its not just poverty, and you get treated like Hitler. Critical thinking gets negative emotional responses from people brought up to believe how they "feeeeeel" is more important than actual results, rather than promoting a change in how things are done which takes effort.

Humans are not a rational species at all, have a look at any news channel or website and you can see what I mean.
The sheer madness of our world where all is confusion, smoke and mirrors should show this very well. We are are capable of rationalizing but thats about it, we are entering a post rationalist future, welcome to the Monkey House.

"Why is critical thinking and logic under so much attack?" isn't really a meaningful question. What particular modes of thinking are under attack, by whom, and for what purpose ?
Emotional thinking is an important and major component of the human experience. Maybe the problem is that our emotions are misplaced and applied to problems in which they don't belong, but a purely rational world would be a living hell.

I am curious how do you think with emotions.
