My guess is that a precursor civilization who lived in the current Egypt area
used a giant pyramid as a power plant to generate electricity using the same effect.

It does make a good capacitor though. Built much like a leyden jar the great pyramids at Giza had a granite lining, thick limestone insulator and white metamorphosed limestone outer layer. Using the main body of limestone as reference the granite is about 250% more conductive and the outer layer is 50% more conductive. The whole thing was capped with a gold capstone, an electrode possibly to capture static electricity from the higher potential in the air above. A current inducing water flow still runs underneath the pyramids today. @Red_Menace
