Hand of Fate 2. Pretty solid, will keep you entertained and combat is a bit tough to get used to, but it is value for money.
Or, buy System Shock 2 for 2 euros. System shock 3 is in the works as well.

Been playing Hand of Fate 2. I missed the first one, so the concept behind the game is incredibly novel and entertaining. I highly recommend picking this one up.

Just finished it. No spoilers whatsoever, but the ending is a bit predictable and anticlimatic just like the first one (in case you've seen how it ends). But still really solid, and I'll probably try to complete it fully.

SS2 was really immersive for me. Loved that game.

Playing right now. Fucking hell, for a game with so outdated graphics it is atmospheric as fuck. I'm playing so tensed up, and I'm always on the edge of my seat for the next enemy, or objective I have to do. Trully an amazing experience.

Ditto. I had a buddy who was so into that game he bought like a poster with the level up tree (or whatever it is) and some miniatures or something. I thought it was a waste of money, but he seemed to really like it.

Best indie game I've played recently was Hollow Knight, but there are plenty of non-AAA developers that are pretty good. Obsidian has made some great recent isometric RPGs (like Tyranny and Wasteland 2). Firaxis' take on the XCOM series was also pretty fucking awesome (XCOM 2 with the War of the Chosen expansion is one of the best strategy games I've played in a very long time). Creative Assembly is also pumping out Total War games, and despite the constant grumbling of the older fans who prefer the historical settings, Total War: Warhammer was a blast to play and has a huge amount of replayability. I wouldn't consider any of those companies "AAA," and none of the games would be considered to be marketable to the mainstream, but they're all worth picking up and playing. Don't give up on gaming just because the large developers like EA, Ubisoft and Bethesda have long since lost their way.
