I'm leaving everything I have ever known in two weeks to start a new life 1,000 miles away. Hopefully in one year, I will be able to say that was the best decision I've ever made.

Changing my diet / way of eating.
Up until 2 1/2 years ago I ate the "standard American diet" of fast food, sodas, lots of breads, pastas and sugary foods. At 5'2" I weighed 162 lbs, had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, allergies and no energy.
In February 2013 I made the switch to a low carb, high fat, moderate protein diet (it's called Keto, very similar to the early phase of Atkins...). I lost weight immediately (currently at 114lbs), my blood pressure lowered, my cholesterol went up temporarily as I lost the weight but is now greatly improved, my allergies are gone and I have more energy than I would have believed possible. And BACON all the time!
Getting the carbs and sugars out of my body and using healthy fat as a fuel honestly changed my life.

Joining the military and getting out of the shit hole town I was living in.

I was offered an opportunity to help develop a course for my undergrad university. It wound up taking full time hours for a full summer but wound up being incredibly worth it and acted as a major catalyst to get me to where I am today. I imagine you'd be able to piece together the subject by looking at my username.

I started not guessing how other people would judge me and just assume that others like me until they show me that they don't.
The younger me would be surprised how few people care enough about me to dislike me (to my face).

I remember transitioning from a small, private elementary school to a large, public middle school and having a really hard time. I was always wondering if I should be wearing what these people were wearing, or talking like these people, and really over-analyzing things during lunch and break. Then I realized I hated most of them any way so why worry what they think? Almost immediately I found myself with a solid group of friends and fitting in just fine. Very few fucks have been given since then, and it's worked out pretty well for me so far.

I tried not caring about what others think about me, and it didn't work out too well. I posted some dumb shit on Facebook, got in a few arguments, and a lot of people thought I was arrogant for saying whatever I wanted to say. So just don't stop caring entirely what people think of you, it's gotta be somewhere in the middle.

I didn't say not to care about what others thought about me, just that I wouldn't presume to know what they did think about me (in a negative way).
