Joining the Army (for me anyway, not saying it would be the best thing for others to do...) Free college education during service, no crippling student loans for the classes I am taking now, and TBH I really needed some discipline at the time, which I now have =) Finally, I met some of my best friends and made some awesome networking connections!

Joining the rowing team at my school.
It made me get in shape, more sociable, and gave me more confidence.
[–] ObiWan-Kenobi ago
I totally agree, before I joined my school's team I was a fat-ass. Now I'm one of the Top 3 Erg scores.

Did crew in high school, it's a very peaceful/relaxing sport. Also if your a girl prepare to get all sorts of scholarship offers from schools. Not trying to be sexist at all, this was just the case for almost every female on my team. Title IX may cause this, but now I'm just speculating... (based off your name I'm guessing you're not a girl)
[–] Penis_Faggot ago
Yeah I'm not a girl. I wouldn't exactly call it relaxing, but yeah there are a lot more girls' scholarships than guys.

I have so many good memories of WoW. Congrats one your relationship working out! I love hearing a good WoW romance story.

Beat me by 7 minutes, so I'll reply to your comment, and say YES INDEED it's the best thing I've done too. I'm 34 and making the transition from Electrician to Electrical Engineer. Every time I think "Man, I should have done this years ago!" I stop and remind myself that at least I'm not 44 and finally doing what I want.
Congrats on your marks, keep it up!
To any other folks thinking of going back to school - pick something you love and DO IT! Don't make me post the Shia Lebeouf video.

The most recent "best decision" I've made was to stop smoking. If you smoke cigarettes - seriously stop - in less than a month you will feel better an have more money.
[–] GregTheLiar 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
One of my best decisions in life was to never start. That's what all my smoker friends tell me anyway. Congrats on quitting!
[–] Represent601 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
See, everyone told me as long as I make over the 3 day hump, I'll be just fine. I call bullshit. I can stop smoking cold- turkey and be just fine for quite a while. Sometimes it's a week, sometimes it's a month, sometimes it's six months, but I always come back. It just takes one bad day and suddenly I have a whole pack when I just wanted one cigarette. It's so frustrating, but it always happens.

My dad quit smoking. Tried that nicotine gum. Became addicted to that for a few years, then switched to chewing regular gum. Each step has been less expensive and more healthy, although he freaks the fuck out when we can't find cherry lime trident layers.

I think you've probably made more decision better than Voat. I mean it is a great place and all.

Just got here this evening. It helps that the servers are actually working now.
I like it, I hope it keeps growing and takes off

I've been here for a little bit and haven't seen any hate or fearmongering, which I'm counting as a miracle.
Edit: Hah 20 voats, now I can upvote you pleasant fucks with impunity!

I started playing guitar in the summer of 7th grade. I'm 36 now. The worse things seem to get, the better my blues sounds.

Yeah, that sounds like the path I'm on. Keep on rockin' in the free world!

Music is the greatest thing I do. I try to pick up any instrument I can, most recently the singing saw, but before that, guitar, bass, banjo, piano, sax. My next thing is gonna be a trumpet I think... Man I'm in debt
[–] Bodhidharma 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
Singing saw! AWESOME. Most recently I learned to throat sing, and play hambone! I was doing didgeridoo before that. The further I go the more confident I become that the music is in me!

I started not guessing how other people would judge me and just assume that others like me until they show me that they don't.
The younger me would be surprised how few people care enough about me to dislike me (to my face).

I remember transitioning from a small, private elementary school to a large, public middle school and having a really hard time. I was always wondering if I should be wearing what these people were wearing, or talking like these people, and really over-analyzing things during lunch and break. Then I realized I hated most of them any way so why worry what they think? Almost immediately I found myself with a solid group of friends and fitting in just fine. Very few fucks have been given since then, and it's worked out pretty well for me so far.
[–] Penis_Faggot 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
I tried not caring about what others think about me, and it didn't work out too well. I posted some dumb shit on Facebook, got in a few arguments, and a lot of people thought I was arrogant for saying whatever I wanted to say. So just don't stop caring entirely what people think of you, it's gotta be somewhere in the middle.
[–] Slumberfunk ago
I didn't say not to care about what others thought about me, just that I wouldn't presume to know what they did think about me (in a negative way).
