Yeah, being friends with blacks is like being around a dog that you are never sure will bite or not. Probably the same for them. Hispanics are about half way to blacks for being on edge. It's because they don't have the same cultural responses. Because I can't predict their response in any given situation, I can never be comfortable with them.
Blacks always seem to walk around with a chip on their shoulder that won't let them assimilate. They invent ways to be different, so no one can accuse them of being whitey, of being an Uncle Tom. That's going to limit their success, since what's called white culture is just the distilled successful culture of America. I think part of it is also interpersonal communication. Because it's harder to see subtle cues on dark faces, black expression is always exaggerated. In a white, it would be called clowning.
