I couldn't really get into Wolfenstein. Just got the Witcher 3 for 30 bucks on cdkeys.com. Loving it so far and it looks wonderful.

Witcher 3 is legitimately one of the best games I've ever played. It's simply amazing.

For added fun, compare the budget and dev cycles of The Witcher 3 to Dragon Age:Inquisition, then compare the stark quality difference. I don't know how those Polish madmen do it.

The new order looks really good. I have to change pc soon and it's one of the first game i'll play on it. I've heard of textures pop-in problems. Has that been fixed yet?

I played the original on 360 and enjoyed the hell out of it. Sure it wasn't a pure Doom game but I thought it played well for what it was.

Edit: It was on the original xbox I think. Right?

It was on both consoles. They released BFG on 360 and PS3 but the original was on Xbox Original.

I recently was updating my wishlist on Steam and found Doom 3, added it instantly. Sadly, it was after the sale and since I can't pay full price I'm gonna have to wait for the next sale. I watched a Doom 3 playthrough a while ago, but luckily for me, I never finished it, and I say luckily because I want to be surprised about what happens at the end.

Go, go on and kill all the demons.

I'm playing through it too ATM. I'm enjoying it too, for the same reasons. I am a little bored of the monster closets, and the predictable nature of turning around to shoot demons whenever you pick something larger than an armor shard up, but it is a nice change from the current crop of FPS games where you're simply along for the ride and your AI team mates have to even open fucking doors for you in scripted action sequences.

My favorite thing about old school games like Doom 3 is the lack of Dickensian emotion baiting. Just wreck shit.

I didn't personally like the BFG edition. I'm playing through it right now and it seems like the gameplay doesn't fit the theme of this game very well at all.

While it might seem like a silly change, the flashlight thing was huge because, for example, certain other parts of the game aren't as good because of it, but that's the clearest example for me.

Another is the nearly doubled ammo pickup from weapons. Once you get the machine gun you basically will never run out of ammo if you're even slightly accurate, and (haven't gotten that far), I imagine this stretches to the plasma rifle as well.

When taken on terms of a shoot-em-up instead of a action-survival-horror game, the game suffers greatly as a result. Enemies are not incredibly intelligent and the setpieces in the game suddenly lose most of the tension. Gun balance is taken incredibly out of whack with basically infinite ammo and this makes the stress of possibly running into larger enemies much less impactful. While I'm glad the new doom is returning to classic run n' gun play of the originals, doom 3 isn't designed for and probably shouldn't be played that way.

Even though I really appreciate the duct tape mod, having to switch between FL and my guns on the original Xbox version added a layer of tension. Especially when fighting in the room that's really, really dark.

When Doom3 first launched, I built a PC for it and everything - I played a fair bit, but never even made it through to the Hell levels (had a new gf at the time).

I got the BFG version so that I could use it with the Oculus Rift, and holy crap! Way too spooky! I did not enjoy that, at all, ha.

I'll have to give it another shot in just regular non-VR mode, now that you've brought it up again. Maybe after I play through a bit of it and know what to expect, I'll be able to check it out on the headset again.

Stoked for Doom4, though!
