This reminds me of a joke.

The boys in fourth grade were having a dick measuring contest you see. Transgenders didn't participate. Hey SJWs don't blame me. I woulda let them participate.
Anyway they all go home you see.
Tyrone: Daddy (don't laugh yet man) why is my dick bigger than the other boys? Is it because I'm black?

Daddy (not yet man): No son it's because you're 14.
Now you can laugh you see.

The moral of the story is you can't hold anybody back because niggers would never get out of the fourth grade.

Schools seem to worry more about the emotional impact of holding kids back than about the problems that come from a kid who is not ready.

As an aside, MIT won't kick you out if you fail first semester.

It's unfortunate you just disregard the emotional impact. We're not just talking about little Timmy having his feelings hurt because everyone else went on to the next grade. Children that are held back have over twice the drop out rate of children who are given an "Emotional Pass" who performed the same. By in large failure in elementally school comes from outside factors, poor home life, no family support, it has nothing to do with actual intelligence. Holding a child back is more of a way for upset teachers to get back at children for not listening.

Literally the only thing it contributes to society is completely ruining educations before they can get started. Your just putting young people in a position latter in life where they can make perfect scores in every class and still graduate a whole year after their peers.

(For the record I'm talking about white children in white schools)

That MIT comment is more than a bit misleading. The first semester graded pass / no record to give students a chance to acclimate. There's kind of a difference between being able to snooze through courses and ace everything a la high school - and then suddenly working hours each and every day just to get by a la MIT. Incidentally that means somebody who gets all A's his first semester, also does not have that represented on their transcript. The second semester also no records D/Fs, though A/B/Cs start being recorded.

I don't disagree with the MIT one. Probably should have made that more clear.
