Sun acts as a spotlight. It was like the spotlight was turned off... backgrounds light very much existed. Similar to twilight. Nowhere near being nighttime.
So why does it get fully dark when the earth rotates so your opposite the Sun? Or you could look at the phases of the moon or Venus with a telescope, but you have no use for reality.
