This bothers me. When you watch TV shows from the 70s and 80s, for example, it is common for an overweight father figure to have heart problems caused by his poor diet. It shows that back then we just knew that being fat would give you a heart attack. It was common knowledge. It is crazy to me that we have managed to unlearn this to the point where fat people seriously argue that there are no adverse health effects of being obese. Collective denial has made us so stupid.

True, but the study is about the question whether damage can be repaired by losing weight. It turns out that about 50% of bariatric patients restore their normal heart shape within a year.

For the third time in the past two weeks. The local news has been having segments on obesity related cancers. I believe they do this, to prove to them that their weight is harming them.

Of course they had to do a study for that. Science regularly investigates whether things we assume are true actually hold. However, in this case the question was whether following bariatric surgery allows the heart to return to its natural shape and function. It would seem perfectly plausible that such a change was not reversible and in fact we don't yet know if that reversal is possible when the period of obesity exceeded more than a decade.

Obesity is the number one cause of hypertension and atherosclerosis. Not to mention a "ton" of other problems.

It just seems like common sense, why is this so hard? It shouldn't be this hard to get people to care about living.

Did you know?! Fat has mass. New study confirms. "We weighed it and the scale went up."
