I've just come to interpetite it as a general warning. Some of this stuff would be frowned upon in public, not just at work. Im thinking like family gatherings, waiting rooms, school functions, court, waiting in line, a library, etc. Sometimes stuff is better off without onlookers.

Not really. Words do not tend to get you fired when someone sees them over your shoulder.

I'm not sure about where you work, but if the normies in my life read some of the voat comments and headlines I see, they'd see me as a gas chamber operator.

Reading for information and noticing way too much skin take different amounts of time. If voat were littered with nudity and gore, it would be the end of viewing voat in any sort of public setting for most people.
