Bring back public hangings in front of the courthouse.

It does not deter crime, it is too easily politicized, and it cannot be undone when applied to the innocent (which happens way too often). A country is better off without it.

(if you were facing the death sentence for a crime you had not committed, do you think your legal system is good enough to get you off the hook?)

It costs the taxpayer more than life imprisonment, for some reason. That being said, giving big government the ability to decide who to kill is a slippery slope. Maybe it should be reserved for the worst of the worst, but only when there are no other options available.

Our Justice system in America is for correction. Hence the department of corrections bit. If someone cannot be corrected or will never be released you could make a compelling argument that life in prison with no hope of leaving is cruel and unusual punishment. This justifies execution beyond even the punitive.

Its all way too expensive... They should make a measure of cruelty standard and then sell the contract to kill anyone who intentionally and illegally ends human life to such private companies. If you can meet the srandard, the contract goes to the lowest bidder. Other killings not deemed intentional should find ways of harvesting every last ounce of value from the offender... Hate crime laws need to go away. They create protected classes of people.
