Its all way too expensive... They should make a measure of cruelty standard and then sell the contract to kill anyone who intentionally and illegally ends human life to such private companies. If you can meet the srandard, the contract goes to the lowest bidder. Other killings not deemed intentional should find ways of harvesting every last ounce of value from the offender... Hate crime laws need to go away. They create protected classes of people.
It needs to exist, but at present it is overused and does not have proper safeguards to ensure that innocent people are not put to death. There needs to be some mix of particular types of evidence that prove the suspect committed the crime. Eyewitnesses are notoriously inaccurate. DNA can be planted and can fingerprints. Other evidence can be faked. But enough of different kinds of evidence at some point overwhelms things.

It costs the taxpayer more than life imprisonment, for some reason. That being said, giving big government the ability to decide who to kill is a slippery slope. Maybe it should be reserved for the worst of the worst, but only when there are no other options available.

Their is not enough. Clear out the prisons.
