If they can only intermarry (or at least highly pressured to marry inside the tribe), where do you get the idea that they aren’t inbred?

couple of things actually, along with a clarification after discussions with another voater:

1) the ashkanazi jews do indeed have a genetic failing which is consistant with inbreeding, but the shephardic jews do not. so yes it appears that one of the jewish populations did in fact inbreed, but it would have been thousands of years ago since the shephardic do not suffer from this and the two groups did intermingle heavily

2) but the jews arent idiots, and like the whites they learned fairly quickly that years of inbreeding results in weak genes, and stopped the practice.

3) there is nothing in their texts that im aware of that suggests that the practice is encouraged or even tolerated, along the same lines as the christians which also makes no claims to that effect, since midieval populations were heavily influenced by religious command this helps the notion that people of these groups did not inbreed.

My comment was merely based on the whole “youza joo if youza mutha was a joo” followed by “why don’t joo marry a good jooish girl” tropes of every single sitcom and IRL joo I’ve ever seen.

Perhaps my definition of inbred is slightly looser than yours.

Thanks for the info.
