You aren't very bright.
Regulations in North America are out of control. That's why.

They don't outsmart us. They outwork us because asians are basically slaves and do whatever they are told to do. But the organizing intelligence behind the work of asians is always lacking. Their production methods are crude and their production quality is ridiculously low. Just like you can't make an army out of slaves you can't make good workers out of slaves either.
Just because you can make a man work for you doesn't mean you can make him work well for you.

They used to work for less money (it's catching up to the point where including government shenanigans you're practically better off staying local unless it's a necessity for entering the Chinese market), which is a large part of it. Most people can also attest that Chinese frequently cut corners so you may find you're getting what you pay for.
There are other issues like taxes and stocks being different and the fact that the American company might actually just be contracting a Chinese factory to do the work, ship it over and go through a QC/Assembly process on the machine that add to cost as well.
I'd agree that we've lost the ability to competitively produce a lot of manufactured goods locally, especially low-end goods that require a fair amount of manhours to complete, but that's also largely because you have workers competing against wage rates in places like Southeast Asia. Hard to stay competitive, profitable and pay a wage that's going to attract anybody decent against that.

So buy the Chinese machine and let the American company fail, problem solved.
the problem is, they enact all kinds of bullshit laws, regulations and tariffs to combat this ... since its a machine to make food i have to check that it will be allowed etc ... recent example with Canadian timber and Bombardier aircraft ... Boeing cannot honestly compete with Bombardier and such is the case with everything else ... so sad ... American citizens end up overpaying for so many things

Because the stuff made in China is going to be nonfunctional or barely functional garbage. Say what you want about Americans but at least our stuff works. The chinese can't even make crescent wrenches. Fact they can't even make decent box or open end wrenches either. They just break right in half on seriously stuck bolts.
The chinese are shit and frankly they are the people I'm the least afraid of on the entire earth. Any war with China will see their material just fall from the sky in waves like a joke. Without even a shot being fired.

nope, they make better stuff in asia. korean/japanese cars are vastly better than unreliable american junk. chinese are catching up and quality from there is great - just bought a chinese made PH meter, heat gun - work perfectly and are cheap

I didn't mention the Koreans or Japanese. They are very different peoples than the Chinese. The Chinese have a history of making shody junky products. You can ask any Chinese person about this and they will tell you. Merchants in general have a very bad reputation in China for this reason and it goes back all the way to Confucius.
The Japanese and Koreans are about 50 years ahead of the Chinese in manufacturing tradition. Furthermore the Japanese and Koreans are both proud people who want to take pride in their work. Most Chinese are very different from that. They are more pragmatic in orientation and do exactly as they are told. No more, no less. You can't be great that way. The Chinese are risk averse and it shows in everything they do.
