Hide in plain sight and much less complicated. Cheaper too.
If you can't see those advantages, honesty seriously doubt your abilities to problem solve.

It is hard to take you seriously as you seem to selectively respond to my points. You are still assuming the boss has employee passengers in his car. You also didn't seem to pick up the fact that the device I linked works remotely so you don't have to retrieve it.

The device is under $20, so even if it doesn't get returned it's no big loss - potentially in contrast to a phone.

Also my efforts are to keep my profile low and limit avenues of exposure. Very few people would be able to plausibly pull off the 'i left my phone in your car and didn't notice until the next day' routine. Some safer assumptions to make which support my approach:

The boss leaves for most of the day he could be suspicious and defensive if a phone is left in his car.

The fact that OP is a subordinate indicates a good chance he isn't as good at reading people or carrying out deception as his boss. If your plan involves acting, you better make sure your actors can act and don't sweat.

You do it your way and I'll do it mine - which will result most probably in me knowing your every move within a few hours of finding your phone.
