They got me excited picturing a vast underwater area with thousands of them moving around.

…and is home to up to 15 of the cephalopods…

That’s a village at best.

It’s still neat, but it’s no underwater civilisation in the works.

When my kids were very little, I came across some development milestones described as 'playing with others' and 'playing near others'. The difference between the two milestones were that at around 1-2 years old, a child can play in the same space as other children, use the same toys, but not necessarily acknowledge the other children. It isn't until they're about 3 that they begin to coordinate play with peers.

This story of the octopus city looks to fit more in the 'playing near' category than 'playing with.'

The international team of researchers saw the gloomy octopuses meeting up, living together, communicating with each other, chasing unwelcome octopuses away, and even evicting each other from dens

Wow Octopi are most advanced than we are, they manage to chase the unwelcome away. Imagine 7 arms shaking at you while the octupus screams get off my lawn

Octopolis seems to be centred on an unidentified human-made object about 30 cm (11.8 inches) in length, but there's no obvious comparable object in Octlantis that creatures appear to have settled around.

A lost dildo is now a monolith for an underwater civilization, just think about that one.

It would be very easy for an octopus to make a door that humans can't open.

Also: Get your tentacle off of me, you damned dirty squid.
