yes, we should remind them of this logical step somehow.

The term hate crime has it's own issues it most often means crime committed due to racism, but is applied to mean crime committed by one race on another. The idea of a hate crime as the words describe seems rather obvious that it would apply most crime, at best a crime is committed against someone that you are indifferent to and they are seen as an obstacle. no one commits a crime against someone they actually love (I don't care what words they say, and if they mean it they don't understand love anyhow). people commit crimes against those they think they hate all the time; gangs fighting gangs, college vs college "pranks" while not hate they see the actions as good natured or rivalry but when they start doing property damage or theft it is a pre-planned crime based on their feelings that the others deserve it, minor things like that annoying neighbor that you over spray just a bit with the weed killer to get their lawn, making change in the offering plate by taking 3 $5s for a $10 you put in because the pastor got preachy with you last week at confession. We do a lot of things out of hate or dislike, but hate crimes only happen based on race it seems. If we had "race crime" laws the public would go nuts so we call them "hate crimes" and ignore the bulk of crimes committed due to hate as just regular crime. In reality we should just do away with a labels for crime, if you murder someone you get murder based on the actions you took not why you took them.
