It's not as far off as you might think. Forcing an entire collection of atoms to behave as one quantum entity, they'd have energy states very similar to a huge atom - or any particle at that scale, really.

What I'm particularly interested in is what happens electrically to a nanocrystal as you put it under different voltages. Strip away half its electrons, and will the nuclei collapse into some new configuration?

I understand your view point but think scientist should be more creative in naming these units that act as one. Having a similar quality doesn't necessitate this naming scheme.

I also wonder how they behave under different conditions. Will fission or fusion release energy?

edit: And I could see battery tech improving...
