No, that just breeds the strongest criminal. And the strongest criminal was usually granted a pardon. As much as I like a good ol' deathmatch, I agree with the above poster that public hangings would be a much better of disposing of filth and satisfying the people.

Colosseum would generate so much fucking taxable revenue.. But the prison system is in a comfortable position leeching billions of public funds already. Murderers and rapists have no use in this society besides dying or pressing license plates. Kill them

The colosseum has been greatly mischaracterized by modern media as only a place of death. It was chiefly a place of entertainment. "The Colosseum....was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles....animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology." The executions were like half-time shows, not the main reason it existed. It was for theatre, feats of strength, skills, etc.

No, but I think prisons should be lawless kill zones for those who are there. Let criminals kill xriminals.

If those to be executed want to die that way, perhaps. I don't know in other cases.

The problem is that what's punishable by death is usually decision of a few.

Can we just bring it back as a form of entertainment? I bet it was really fun to watch

Hell, I bet random people would volunteer for the chance to be Gladiators.

Deathrace would be more fun than the coliseum.
