The Batman Arkham games have a very similar fighting mechanics, as well as some stealth play, all in an open world environment. I can't say that I know of anything that has something comparable to the Nemesis system. I think that's kind of that game's big innovation.

Hey, thanks. I've gotten that suggestion from other people as well. I'll try and check them out.

Almost everything (except the nemesis system) is heavily based on the Batman games. And the Batman games did it much better overall.

Both are published by Warner Brothers and I strongly suspect that a lot of code is shared between Shadow of Mordor and the Batman games. There is just too much similarity to be a coincidence.

Interesting point. I would be curious to see if some of the same teams worked on both games.

It's like Assassin's Creed movement meets Batman fighting.

I came there to say this. The Batman Arkham titles are similar in style ... definitely worth a try!

the witcher 3 not exactly the same combat although its similiar but more it's a very dark and violent world like in SOM. unfortunately theres no stealth in it. Its also very storyline based which means lots of cut scenes but IMO it gets away with it bc the stories are very compelling (plus theres naked women in the cutscenes) Unfortunately the nemesis system (the ability to change the bosses in SOM) is unique to shadows at this time but i hope to see it in more future games as in my opinion it was extremely immersive.

i dunno i could go on and on but i just got a sense if you liked SOM you would also like the witcher 3. you don't need to play the first 2 to play the third one but you might end up going back to play them if you liked the 3rd one.

My friend actually gave me The Witcher 3 for free. Its starting to get to where my PC hardware can't handle the big, fancy games these days though. :(

Play Batman Arkham City whilst watching The Fellowship of the Ring.

I feel like theres a joke here, but maybe I'm missing it? Hahaha. Is it that the combat systems are the same and that I'd get the nemesis system from The Fellowship of the Ring?

It's getting a bit further from the mark since Assassins Creed and Batman have already come up. But Prototype is still in the ballpark. It's a big open world game, lots of collectibles, upgrades, some stealth sections although it's far more fun to just rampage. I'm pretty sure it's on PC.

Dragon Age Dishonered Dark Souls

Assassin's creed series and batman both have similar gameplay to Shadows. If you like the upgrade/leveling system check out Tomb Raider (2013) or Far Cry 3 & 4. I'm sure you've played it, but Resident Evil 4 has a pretty awesome upgrade system too.

TLDR: Assassins Creed, Batman series, Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3 & 4, Resident Evil 4.

Thanks for the suggestions. Honestly, I've been out of the loop when it comes to games. I was pretty heavy into WoW but had to drop it. So, I picked up GTAV and finished it and my buddy recommended Shadow of Mordor. Looks like you've given me plenty to work with so I won't miss WoW :). Thanks so much!!

From a combat and stealth mechanics perspective the Assassin's Creed games are very similar.

Which ones specifically? I played the first one for a bit on Xbox and it was really hard to get into.

All of them, Shadow of Mordor is essentially a Lord of the Rings reskin of Assassin's Creed with some (admittedly cool) extra features.
