This is the mantra of the military, and why we are all alcoholics. Not that we can't afford it, per se, but we cant get the time off.

I got back from deployment and I was drunk every night for 3 months straight. We got back and they had I think 30 packs on sale for like 5 bucks each, so I proceeded to buy 10 of them, the first night. I dont remember those lasting all that long either, and being surprised at how fast they went.

But yeah alcohol was one of my major drains on finances in the military.

I hated how you would get plans going before formation, that you all were going to go drinking together, but come after formation, everyone but a select few would flake. It is amazing the flakes actually would get offended that you stopped inviting them places...

We were drinking two 30 packs a night on weekdays while I was in just sitting outside, and about five or six on Fridays and Saturdays. We decided not to invite anyone, we would just have a lanai party and start poker games and whatnot, and whoever decided to join was welcome. I kinda miss those days.

Unless you make your own booze it's probably cheaper to use the money on a real vacation, and often the booze there is cheaper than beer at home.

It's usually the case that alcohol is taxed extremely heavily, but in countries like the Philippines it's cheap because nobody pays the tax if there is one. It doesn't actually cost a substantial amount to make.
