Its not so much about legitimate criticism but more of the "you don't have the same view as me there for I will call you all kinds of names". I don't have a problem with having a discussion as long as ppl keep it civil, not everyone will have the same opinions as me and that's fine as-long as they don't resort to name calling and harassing me.

If someone starts resorting to personal insults or ad hominem attacks then the discussion is pretty much over. There will be nothing useful gained from continuing to interact with that person. Move on and search out more interesting conversations elsewhere. Don't get baited into futile arguments and name calling, it is a waste of time.

fortunately I think that if I can outright see the 'criticism' hurled at me is not based on much and consist almost exclusively of namecalling I pretty much dismiss it without having to make a conscious descision about it. I try to take criticism on the internet almost the same as I take it IRL. If you make an argument I will try to listen to you and understand your point of view. If you just stand there yelling insults, I will walk away from you and if I meet you again and recognize you I will avoid you and not take you seriously.

Don't ever take personally, things people say online. These are things trolls are way too cowardly to say to your face. I see it as a triumph when some douchenozzle pops off, because that means they were somehow made to feel less-than by my erudition online lol. Also, here is a saying : "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent" -Eleanor Roosevelt

I think hard about the criticism, and if it's something which can help me improve as a person, I accept it.
If it's just useless bashing, ignoring is good

I can be sassy so I do reply but the block button is there for a reason. Some people judge you for blocking but if it's really bothering you or an inconvenience, just press the button. I always try to engage in a constructive way first but some people get really aggressive (Tumblr types, 6 angry tweets every 2 minutes kinda thing), and in those instances I just block. It saves my notifications too.

Yes ppl here are certainly much friendlier than reddit. I don't know how to not take it personally though :/
