I mostly feel pity or them. Seriously, if someone can not take other peoples opinions without resorting to getting into personal attacks (ie, name calling, insults, etc) they are at best very insecure in their own opinions.

I can be sassy so I do reply but the block button is there for a reason. Some people judge you for blocking but if it's really bothering you or an inconvenience, just press the button. I always try to engage in a constructive way first but some people get really aggressive (Tumblr types, 6 angry tweets every 2 minutes kinda thing), and in those instances I just block. It saves my notifications too.

Getting into flame wars online is just petty. Even in real life, if someone chooses to be a dick to you (and it is an active choice), then just deal with it, unless it's reputation damaging or potentially violent. Look up stoic philosophy. One of the cornerstones of it is maintaining an almost emotionless state, however the whole point of it isn't that you force yourself to grin and bear it, but more that you let things go, accepts things/actions/people for what they are, and you yourself become stateless (don't carry negative emotions/memories around with you like baggage). Think of the old christian maxim: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

Don't ever take personally, things people say online. These are things trolls are way too cowardly to say to your face. I see it as a triumph when some douchenozzle pops off, because that means they were somehow made to feel less-than by my erudition online lol. Also, here is a saying : "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent" -Eleanor Roosevelt

Listen to what they say and see if any of it has any merit.

The same way I deal with real life insults and criticism. First, forget your ego entirely. Ask yourself if this person (however poorly spoken) has a non-adhominem argument. Are they correct?

Secondly, ask yourself how you can improve yourself. This doesn't mean that person is correct. Use every source in life to improve yourself.

Third, if the person deserves an honest rebuttal, provide one. If not, you can either ignore them, or troll them.

I just imagine how sad their life is, that the best thing they have to do is insult someone on the internet.

That being said, if I post something stupid, I'll take my lumps :-)

I turn my brain on and realize it is just words on the internet.Words do not cause me harm. That is not to say that on occasion I do not give back some of what I get.I have a radical feminist on my facebook who is particularly fun to drive nuts.It is amazing and news stories about false rape and other such things will set her off.
