200,000K house in my neck of the woods makes you nearly homeless, you probably won't have a working roof. Even the crappy condo style attached houses that you see in condo complexes are closer to 300,000. Just remember kids, it's not the house you're buying anyway, it's the dirt below it. Shop smart.
People believe what they want. I drive a 20 year old truck that's been paid off for 14 years and live in a house that cost $60k/$350 month, everyone thinks I'm rich as fuck. No you fucking idiots, I just know how to NOT throw money away so I have some to spend on things I like (travel, early retirement).

That's because most auto loans are paid off in 5 years. Most house mortgages are paid off in 20-30 years.

Depends on where you are. If you live in NYC or Seattle, a $200,000 house is basically a shed in the ghetto.
If you're in the most naturally beautiful places in Idaho or Montana, a $200,000 house is amazing.
And, of course, that's just in the US.
