I am working on a no-shields run and so far it has placed in all three categories. Most fun: going dodge-only on Artorias (now I understand why a lot of people think it's the best fight in the game). Most heartpounding: only having parries for defense in PvP. Most brutal: having to plan around simply tanking the Four King's magic bolts. I never realized how much simpler Dark Souls is with a good shield until I forced myself to go without.

Artorias, hands down, one of my hardest and favorite fight in the souls series. Shield only run sounds interesting, I just completed a SL1 pyro run for fun, I may have to try shields. It's getting to the point where the game gets a bit easy, you gotta make your own challenges.

That's what I love about this game though; you may burn through the official achievements, but there are so many possible challenges you can do yourself. Like the SL1, or no-shields, or shields-only, or wolverine, or...

What's funny though is the one thing I've never done in this game is an "as-it-was-intended" run. I got into Dark Souls by watching Let's Plays and speed runs, so I started off with the master key and the shortcuts. I've never done it the old fashioned way. Which is why I'm so excited for Dks3. No wikis/youtubers to spoil it.

I think one of my favorite was when I was doing my second playthrough. I was using the halberd and managed to wreck the Capra demon on my first try with some charcoal pine resin. It felt real good to get him don't after having such trouble on my first playthrough

Ah, that reminds me. I had heard legends of the devilish duo known as Snorlax and Pikachu; players stopping their playthrough right then and there, 500+ deaths on the boss fight, it had me scared. Got to the fight, I killed them first time, on my first playthrough. You better believe I was ecstatic. I had the worst time with Capra my first runthrough, fucking dogs dude, they still occasionally get me

Ah man I've had quite a few memorable experiences. However, the most memorable one to me had be my during my first playthrough when I went up against Artorias.

I had nothing else planned for that day so I had all day to play some Dark Souls and man it was worth it. I got to the DLC and fought my way through to Artorias. I fought against him for a good five hours until I finally decided I should go to sleep. Woke up the next day managed to beat him first try. It was great. He is probably the only boss that I have truly memorized the moveset for.

I've shared the frustration of not being able to get past a part in a game, only to come back sometimes weeks later and get it first try. It's always an... unusual feeling, but I was on the same boat with Artorias. In fact, I actually do think I came back maybe a month later, after being unable to beat him for so long. Seriously, Souls games have such a perfect amount of difficulty; enough to piss you the hell off, but enough to keep you driven and going. Truly, some of the best games I've played to date.

I just finished as in yesterday evening my first SL1 run. Gwyn was giving me so much trouble. I could parry him maybe 80% of the time, but that 20% would get me killed. After I would guess 15 tries I eventually gave up on parrying everything but his first leaping attack, and managed to Duck, Dodge, Dip, Dive, and Dodge enough to bring him down. Also does anyone else find it somewhat odd that he is weak to fire?

Ah, the good ol' Five D's. Gwyn, besides 4 Kings was probably my hardest boss in the SL1 run. What pyros / ringset / weapon did you end up using?

On Gwyn I had Great combustion, ring of favor and protection, and Flame Stoneplate Ring. On 4 Kings I got grabbed and thought I was dead, put the controller down and was ready to start a new, only to stand up quickly grab the controller and get a hit in killing the first king, healed and managed the rest without a problem. I guess the random number generator god was in my favor and I got really lucky on them because I beat them on my first try.

I recently fought Gwyn on without a shield on NG++ and it was intense. You hit that parry or you get destroyed. I eventually beat him by abusing the terrain and burning through about 10 estus flasks.

Most fun: dueling on the Anor Londo rafters with my Artorias cosplay build in XehanortXs Dark Souls Fight Club
Most heartpounding: fighting Manus on my first character, a int/dex sorceror. Learning to dodge all of his attacks was one of the most rewarding experiences for me in the game. Most brutal: first playthrough, beating my face against the Capra demon for 5 hours straight before resorting to the Drake Sword to take him down

Well, not a moment, but I play offline due to the lack of internet where I live. After I first met Solaire, I went back up to the balcony above him, and began sorting through my items. Firebomb selected, by chance. Then I bumped the "use item" button and threw my firebomb with accidentally unrivaled accuracy, aggroing Solaire below. I didn't know what exactly I was about to miss out on, it being my first time, and I ended up luring him out onto the drake's bridge and getting him killed by the fire. I never used a summon sign my entire first playthrough, forgetting about them after a few bosses and only learning later that I could have had allies for every single grueling boss fight. The single most heartpounding moment of that playthrough was beating the Ornstein and Smough after nearly 4 HOURS of throwing myself against them.

But hands-down, my most memorable moment from Dark Souls (and from any video game) came from the Painted World of Ariamis. From the edge of the cliff on the graveyard, I realized I could hear a strange noise coming from the forest below. It was a song, like this dark, ominous chant. It was the most eerily atmospheric, the most enveloping, beautiful moment I have ever had in any video game, imagining the things that could be singing in the forest. I tried to look up what the fuck it was on the internet, but I found no other accounts whatsoever of this. Closest thing I learned was that the Painted World is where the developers used to test certain sound effects, so I'm guessing it was that. A friend of mine also said he encountered the singing, but only for a few seconds as he was immediately killed, and then couldn't hear it after that.

I haven't finished it yet, but so far Anor Londo has been the most brutal. It took me 10 tries to get past the snipers (the ones that shoot spears for arrows...) and when I finally got past the archer on the right, I fell off. At that point, I just put my controller down and took a nap. It was devastating.
