I don't know where all this carpooling thing originated. I've been picking up coworkers on my daily route to the company since 1998 and, of course, they pay. So what's the point here with Uber, etc.
These services make it easier to connect with people who have similar commute routes/schedules. Depending on the size of your company, you may not know everyone you work with. Or maybe someone works across the street who would be a good match and you'd never meet them otherwise.
