Driving a car is dangerous to yourself and others. There is no room for leniency.

If they had actual crime under control I might be ok with it. But as it is they constantly cheer about their distracted driving crackdowns and how many tickets they have given out while trying to keep us from looking behind the curtain at real crimes. Locally we have violent and property crime going up and up yet the cops only want to talk about tickets for folks looking at their phones at a stop light.

Make phones not work over 20 miles per hour. Next problem. Only that doesn't fill the coffers, or allow fourth amendment violations by armed county mercenaries.

I hate this idea for when I'm a passenger or on public transit.

Very good point. As a child of the interstate, I never consider the people on public transport. I have never been on public transit.

Help! I'm being kidnapped, and I'm trapped in the trunk!

They're driving pretty fast.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. If a person can conduct themselves safely, then they have no right to be on the road. They're rights end when they infringe on others safety. If a person is texting while driving, they are ignoring others rights. And it is only a minor inconvenience to wait until they are pulled over to read and respond.

What's your justification for the notion that driving is a privilege? Who has the authority to say I can't drive and what gives them that authority?

The laws of basically every land out there. If you're gonna argue the whole "Freeman on the Land" shit, there's no point in conversing about it.

I assume your are ok with outlawing radios, conversation, eating, and any other things that can distract someone because it can save a life.
