Of course that's the popular view, but isn't what has happened. I think it's more complicated.
At least five IT contractors who worked for dozens of House Democrats including Wasserman Schultz purportedly took hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of computer equipment and potentially hacked into the lawmakers’ email accounts.
The contractors, all members of a Pakistani-Muslim family...
Investigators found a laptop used by lead contractor Imran Awan as officials were closing in on him and his brothers.
The story stated the laptop was found stashed in the Rayburn House Office Building and seized as part of the probe. But whether the seized computer is the one that belongs to Wasserman Schultz remains unclear.
The laptop has been in police custody since found, so she couldn't have done anything to it. But the good news is that it may contain info on a lot more than DWS. Maybe a lot of the DNC might have some embarrassing, or illegal, info on it. Then again, maybe the stall was to give enough time for a few moderately-paid police to negotiate a hefty fee to have certain info conveniently become corrupted or erased. DWS/DNC wouldn't just give up unless something has occurred that ensures nothing compromising now exists on it. And if the scan and analysis is to be done by the same police dept that has it, who's going to question, refute, or verify their findings?

It took her two months to figure out how to format her drive, overwrite it with zeros, and then reinstall windows.
