If you're throwing ragers on the regular because of video game withdrawals, taking it out on your woman and making her insane then STFU and buy a new PC.

Think about it this way: the longer you wait, ultimately the more badass it will be or end up costing you less overall.

I predict OP will snap and ruin something else if it is decided the purchase of a new gaming computer is actually optional for him.

Reducing what you do on the computer can make it seem like a bigger machine than it was. Also, if it doesn't have an SSD, put one of those fuckers in. It's cheap and worth it. At least you'll get a novelty high for a month or two.

I actually did that already. But good suggestion.

Sounds like an expensive way to waste money.. Laptops are something people need nowadays for anything including to find work or even have family photos.

Cutting corners by using tablets, Linux, and all that crap, especially when you don't have cable hookups or a TV sounds like a good way to snap. Is the OP into masochism and torturing himself and others?

This whole diatribe sounds like you need to replace your fucking computer or make everyone else's life pure hell. Go buy another one and try not to break it this time. A $1400 machine shouldn't break after 2 years unless you're trashing your own shit on purpose.

I'd say spend the money on anger management classes if OP is really so insane to think that purchasing a replacement is even optional at this point..

Linux isn't a downgrade, and I'm not suggesting those other things.

The OP can always take up a mistress to use up his spare time, no need to sit at home with the wife on the machine all day, is there? /s

Computers need continuous upgrades. I have an open case self built PC where I regularly upgrade parts when I can afford them and when the price gets at my price range. So I have always an up to date PC that will last 5 years from the moment I become jobless and can't afford to buy a new PC.

Also when I look at the prices of hardware now and year ago I probably would only have saved 50-70 bucks. Why would I have been on an old ancient slow PC when for 70 bucks I could have gone screaming hard?

I went to the self build PC so I bought a giant case, tons of cooling and a 1200W power supply. Just to be safe that I have enough room and power for anything that I want to put in there. That PC runs extremely cool and this in turn makes this PC very long lasting if I ever give it to my partner when hers break down.

Smart idea.
